UWS Pre-War Duplex

New York, NY

Completion - 2021Photographer - Albert Vecerka/Esto

This gut renovation of a pre-war apartment restores historic features while reconfiguring the floor plan to add light and views and to better serve a modern family's needs. The original layout, which consisted of many small rooms, was opened up to give the apartment a consistent and generous sense of space. An enlarged kitchen and relocated dining room now shares an open, continuous space where custom wood cabinetry juxtaposes original arts-and-crafts detailing.

A window added at the west lot line takes advantage of the afternoon light and incredible views over two belltowers. New glass doors separate the master suite while allowing everyone to experience the view over the church when they walk up the stairs. A generous en-suite master bathroom benefits from all-day sunlight from the large south facing window.
